Tennis Court Rules and General Information

Hours:           Sunday thru Thursday            6:00 AM to 11:00 PM

                        Friday, Saturday & Holidays    6:00 AM to  1:00 AM 

Prime Time:Monday thru Friday              6:00 PM to 11:00 PM

       Saturday, Sunday & Holidays     ALL DAY

 GENERAL COURT RULES:

 

1.   Both courts are available on a reservation basis at all times, with the exception of times set aside for Nantucket Team practices and League matches or for any other times as the Board of Directors may specifically approve.

 

2.   Nantucket Teams may advance schedule court reservations for practice and/or coaching with the approval of the Tennis Committee Chairperson.  No team shall be permitted to advance schedule court reservations more than one prime time period per week for practice and/or coaching.

 

3.   It will be the responsibility of the Team reserving the courts to  insure that all trash is picked up and all trash cans are emptied after each practice or League match.  Failure to do so may result in loss of advance court reservation privileges.

 

4.   No one under the age of ten (10) will be permitted on the courts at any time unless supervised by a parent or by a member sixteen (16) years of age or older.

 

5.   No one under the age of sixteen (16) will be permitted to reserve a court.  However, if a court is not reserved or being used during a non-prime time period, they may sign up for and use the court that particular time period only.

 

6.   No food will be allowed on the tennis courts.  Drinks, but no glass containers, will be allowed on the courts.

 

7.   While regularly scheduled League matches are being played on a court, no one will be allowed to play on an adjacent court without the consent of the Team which reserved the courts for the matches.

 

8.   All players are expected to observe proper tennis etiquette at all times.  A Member with a guest will be responsible for the actions of that guest.

 

9.   Any Member wishing to reserve the courts for a special function may do so with approval of the Tennis Committee Chairperson.  A charge of $10.00 per court per time period will be assessed for such use and must be paid to the Club Treasurer or the Tennis Committee Chairperson prior to the scheduled special function.

 

10.  The following shall govern the priorities for reservations of the courts:

 

        a.  Regularly scheduled Team matches;

 

        b.  Make-up Team matches (except that make-up matches should be conducted first in that Team's practice         time period, next in any unreserved time periods, next in regular reserved time periods, finally, and only if truly necessary in the time period reserved for another Team's practice);

 

        c.  Team practices and/or coaching;

 

        d.  Approved special functions;

 

        e.  Regular Member reservations and Team matches being played prior to the scheduled time for such matches;

 

        f.  Walk-on reservations.

 

COURT RESERVATIONS:

1.   Reservation sheets will be posted at the tennis courts by:

 

                 6:30 PM Sunday for Monday thru Thursday

 

                 6:30 PM Thursday for Friday thru Sunday

 

2.   Reservations may be made by Members who are sixteen (16) years old or older.

 

3.   Reservations will be on a first come basis.

 

4.   Each Member can have his or her name on the reservation sheet for a future one and one half (1 1/2) hour time period only once at any given time.  That is, a Member cannot reserve two or more future time periods.  Once the reserved time period has expired (played or not played), the Member may reserve another one and one half (1 1/2) hour time period.

 

5.   If a court is not reserved thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of a time period or not in use ten (10) minutes after the start of a time period, then any Member, regardless of his/her future reservations, may reserve that time period.

 

6.   No Member or guest will be allowed to play on a reserved court during two (2) consecutive reserved time periods.

 

7.   A Member who cannot use the court during his/her reserved time period must make every effort to remove his/her name as early as possible.

 

8.   Failure to show up within ten (10) minutes after the start of a reserved time period will constitute forfeiture of that reserved time period.

 

9.   Each Member may sign up for his or her own court time only.

 

10.  Any Nantucket Teams wanting to play out of the Nantucket Swim and Racquet Club must be approved by the Tennis Committee Chairperson.

ATTIRE:

 

REGULATION TENNIS SHOES (no jogging or street shoes) only are permitted to be worn on the tennis courts.  All others will damage the courts.  Proper Tennis attire should be worn at all times.

 

GUESTS: House guests and guests who live outside the area who are eligible for Club Membership may use the courts if they are playing with a Member of the Club.  The area eligible for Club Membership is as defined in the Club By-laws.

 

NOTE: All of the above rules and regulations are designed to protect the rights of all Members and to ensure equitable use of the courts.  Any action which violates these rights is considered to be a violation of the tennis rules and regulations even if they are not detailed above.

 

 

           GUIDELINES FOR TENNIS ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIPS

 

1.   All Nantucket Swim & Racquet Club Members have the right to be on a Nantucket USTA/ALTA team or to form such a team based on availability of courts (co-ordinated by the Tennis Committee).

 

 

2.   Associate Memberships are limited to the number of players (in addition to Member players) necessary to:

 

             (1) fill a USTA/ALTA roster and

 

             (2) field a team during the respective USTA/ALTA season.

 

3.   Associate Members can never exceed 5 Associate Members per team (3 per junior team).  Any additional Associates Members will have to be approved by the Board Of Directors.

 

4.   Associate Members will be charged a fee per USTA/ALTA season commensurate to fees charged by other area clubs and parks established by the Nantucket Board of Directors.  Associates check will accompany their application.

 

5.   Associate Memberships are available by invitation only from the respective team captain or co-captain and are subject to approval by the Membership Chairman as per Nantucket Swim & Racquet Club, Inc. By-Laws.

 

6.   Playing time for Associate Members is limited to actual match play plus one (1) team practice time per week during the season.

 

7.   Associate Members do not have the right to reserve courts at any time.

 

8.   Associate Memberships are for one (1) USTA/ALTA season and must be renewed as necessary for subsequent seasons.

 

9.   All team captains/co-captains must be Nantucket Swim & Racquet Club Members (no Associate Members can hold these positions.)

 

10.  Actual team policies for each season may be determined by a majority of team Members.

 

11.  Notice of upcoming USTA/ALTA seasons must be given to all Nantucket Swim & Racquet Club Members at least four (4) weeks prior to the submission of rosters.  Notice should be in the form of a mail-out or phone survey in addition to a sign-up sheet posted at the courts.  This is to insure no Nantucket Member is deprived of their right to be on a team this will be for the year 1996.  Starting in the year 1997 one annual notification will be sent by the Tennis Committee with the Annual October Meeting notification mailing.

 

12.  Former Nantucket Swim & Racquet Club, Inc. Stock Members cannot become an Associate Member for five years from termination as a Stock Member of the Nantucket Swim & Racquet Club, Inc.

 

13.  The Tennis Committee (Tennis Committee Chairman and each Tennis Team Captain) must meet at least once each ALTA/USTA season to go over procedures and rules.
